A magnetic bar is a handy place to store tools around the shop. But simply mounting it to the wall means you’re sacrificing half the magnet’s usable space. To make the most of the magnet, I created an arm that swings out from the wall, allowing me to store tools on both the front and back.
As you can see in the drawing, there isn’t much to the assembly. It’s just a mounting block, a notched hinge block, and an arm. The hinge block is attached to the arm with short lengths of dowel.
After it’s assembled, just mount the magnetic bar to the bottom edge, and then attach it in your shop wherever you desire. I mounted it next to my drill press to keep all of my drill bits close at hand.
