I don’t have a large shop, so whenever I have to finish a project with a lot of shelves, I struggle to find a place to set all the shelves while they dry. While building a bookcase with metal shelf standards, I came up with an idea for a simple drying rack (photo at left).
To make the rack, I cut four plywood supports. Then I cut a groove down the center of each support and installed the shelf standard. The supports can be clamped to a pair of sawhorses to make a temporary stand. Once you apply the finish, you can stack shelves on the shelf standards. I left about 4" between the shelves to allow air to circulate over the finish.
