My miter saw is one of my primary power tools. The biggest complaint I have is the amount of dust that it creates. The dust collection that came with the saw doesn’t work very well. So, I came up with the dust collection solution shown above.
Dust Shelter. My solution utilizes a small pop-up style spray finishing shroud. But you could use any sort of pop-up tent (like a child’s play tent). I installed a dust collection fitting on the bottom of the shelter to hook to my dust collector. To seal the fitting to the shelter, I simply screw it to a layer of plywood. Then, I can place the shelter unit on sawhorses.
With the shelter set up, I place my miter saw in the opening. Then, after turning on my dust collector, I can make my cuts. The shelter captures the saw dust, while the dust collector removes it.
A fitting at the bottom of the shelter captures a majority of the dust.
