Portable Tool Mounts

By: Erich Lage
Here's an easy way to make your table saw do double-duty. That metal tube your rip fence rides on is the key to pulling this off.

W224 008f01 When I’m knee-deep into a project, my workbench can get pretty cluttered. If I need a space to temporarily mount a portable tool or jig, like my dovetail jig shown above, there’s often no room to be found. I came up with the perfect solution using my table saw’s fence rail system. W224 008a01 My table saw has a gap between the L-shaped mounting bracket and the rail that the fence rides on. I sized a board to fit in that gap and then attached it to a platform that’s sized to fit my dovetail jig. Another board attached to the bottom of the platform acts as a spacer to bring the platform level with the top of the saw table. W224 008f02 The whole assembly is then clamped to the fence rail. It’s easy to customize these mounts for other benchtop tools.
