Mobile Light Stand
I recently replaced a rolling desk chair that had several tears in the seat fabric. Since the wheeled pedestal of the chair was still in perfect working condition, I decided to repurpose it and create this mobile light stand for my halogen shop light. After removing the tripod base from my shop light, I matched a length of large diameter dowel to the wheeled base and the bottom of the light pole. If one hole is smaller than the other, wrap some sheets of paper around the dowel to act as shims. Now my shop light is easy to move around the shop.
Sharpening Floor Mat
John Doyle of Ankeny, Iowa, uses waterstones to sharpen most of the edge tools in his shop. But the process tends to get water all over his workbench. To keep things cleaner, he uses an inexpensive rubber car mat to contain the mess.
Center-Finder Toy
William Collett of Bettendorf, Iowa, found a clever way to make a center-finder tool using some of his child’s toys. He simply connected Lego pieces like the ones shown above. With a pencil in one end piece, the center-finder adjusts for varying thicknesses of lumber.
