A New Sawmill
For the first part of this episode, we talked about Logan's new sawmill that he will be debuting at the event. For real, this thing is a giant Lego set, with a similar style of assembly manual.
For the remainder of the show, we did a preview of the new issue of Woodsmith.
A Fun Box
The projects include a box designed by John. Box projects like this offer the chance to try out some different techniques. This one is also ripe for customizing. The lid hinges on some spring-loaded pin hinges from Lee Valley.
Compact Router Table
A small shop router table ... that I'm working on a version of.
I really enjoy building my own shop equipment where it's possible. At this point, in my woodworking, I have a good idea of the kinds of features, details, and look that I'm going for. This router table is no different. I'm incorporating the ShopNotes router lift. And a revised version of a fence that I designed for a smaller router table.
Once my customized version is complete, I'll post photos here and on our Instagram page.
Maloof-Inspired Chair
Chris Fitch designed a rocking chair that incorporates details and profiles from Sam Maloof chairs. The idea here is to get woodworkers thinking in chair and making heavily shaped parts, without the complete sculpting that a reproduction chair would require. There's a strong family resemblance in an approachable project. It's already seen some demand from subscribers. Beyond the woodworking fun, the chair is really comfortable, too.
Shaping the seat to a smooth, comfortable shape is a fun challenge. This seat shaping article walks through some of the concepts you'll apply. It shows a chair we made on the Woodsmith Shop as well as a stool I made for a recent video series.
Creative Workstation
Dillon designed a drafting table/storage piece that creates a focal point for a crafting workspace or a display and storage piece for large format artwork/posters/maps/etc.
Walnut Coffee Table
This coffee table is labeled Mid-Century, but I think it offers enough style to fit in many rooms. I like Logan's suggestion about making the CNC files available as well.
