Logan and I mused about several home shop items on this episode. It's winter 2024 when we recorded this so heating and air quality is top of mind as the weather dries and gets colder.
Logan brought up the topic of air cleaners and dust control. Topics like this can be a little bewildering for me. There are folk out there who don't really believe in air cleaners — you should collect it at the source cleaners just keep dust airborne for longer you should collect it at the source
Agreed. Woodworkers (and their supporting media) have downplayed the importance of air quality and dust collection. The issue is that many solutions for dust collection are expensive and large that they just don't work well in small shops or folk getting started. Dust collection is challenging on certain tools: drill press, hand-held router, miter saw.
I've been trying to be more active about dust in my own shop: wearing a mask and using my shop vac as often as possible with power tools.
With that in mind, I was thinking about an air cleaner project we did in Woodsmith and built a version on the TV show.
