Workbench Tool Rack

By: John Doyle
I have a habit of letting my benchtop get cluttered with tools. This pull-out rack keeps my frequently used hand tools off the benchtop but still within easy reach.

The rack is a plywood box with a back made from pegboard for extra tool storage. A pair of holders inside the box accept chisels and screwdrivers. And a tray at the top corrals other items you want to keep handy. The rack mounts to the side of the workbench with heavy-duty slides.

After sizing the parts, cut dadoes in the sides for the top, bottom, and tool holders. Then cut a groove in the top, bottom, and sides to accept the pegboard back. (There’s also one more groove in the bottom for a hardboard lip.)

Some options for tool holders are shown here. You can design these parts to hold the tools you have.
