I use my jig saw frequently in my shop. In the past, I would just clamp the workpiece to the edge of my workbench to make the cut. But after nearly cutting into my bench one too many times, I decided to make this versatile benchtop table.
The V-notch at the end of the table is great when I need to cut small curves in a workpiece. And the slots around the perimeter are perfect for attaching quick-release, drill press-style clamps.
I knew that I wanted to use the table for more than just my jig saw, so I added some other handy features as well. The wide slot near the center of the table is great when making short, straight cuts with the jig saw, but it’s also a perfect spot to place my circular saw after breaking down a larger workpiece. There are 1/4" and 1/2" holes drilled along one end of the table to hold router bits. And I rest my router over the large hole in the center of the table between cuts. To provide additional support for a large workpiece, I made a separate assembly that sits at the same height as the table.
