Sometimes it’s necessary to joint the the edge of a thin strip to remove saw marks or shave off some width. But this can be a challenge on the jointer. So I made this jig. It not only protects my hands, but also keeps the workpiece square to the fence.
To use the jig, keep the face of the carrier board flat to the jointer's fence while trimming the thin strip.
To make the jig, I cut a groove in the edge of a “carrier” board. The groove should be sized to hold the thin strip firmly in the jig. Then I attached a cleat on the back of the board. This keeps the thin strip in place as you run it across the jointer.
