Recently I was building a Wall-Mounted Tool Shelf which required making four, small drawers. I could have made them individually, but I used a different technique, instead. It involves building an extra-tall enclosed box and then cutting it in two to form a pair of drawers. Since there’s only one glueup for each pair of drawers, it goes pretty quick.
Starting with an oversized blank, I milled the stock to thickness then ripped and jointed both edges. (The stock should be wide enough for both drawer sides plus a little extra for waste.)
Next, you can cut the grooves to hold what will become the drawer bottoms. At this point, you can cut the sides to length, complete the joinery, and then assemble the boxes with the bottoms, as shown in the drawing.
After the glue is dry, cut the box at the table saw to separate the two drawers. Finally, trim each drawer to final height to fit its opening.
