I use a lot of dowels and inlay strips for projects, but I had a problem storing the leftover pieces. The shorter pieces would get lost or damaged. To help solve this problem, I built this storage carousel.
The carousel consists of four compartments made from clear fluorescent tube protectors. The tubes are mounted into holes drilled into two plywood wheels. I left the tubes open on both ends so I could simply slide pieces in and out. And because the tubes are clear, I can easily see all the cutoffs I have available and find even the smallest pieces quickly.
These wheels rotate on “axles” attached to the underside of my shop cabinets, as you can see in this drawing.
