Benchtop Sawhorses

By: Woodsmith staff
For some tasks, it helps to raise a workpiece above my workbench top. This can make it easier to clamp or work on project parts and assemblies. These stands make that easy to do.

There are often times when I need to rout or cut through the thickness of a workpiece. To protect my benchtop, I made a few of the “sawhorses” you see above. They clamp easily to my bench and store out of the way when I’m ready to close up shop at the end of the day.

These sawhorses are easy to make from strips of 34" plywood. The top and bottom plates provide space for clamping the sawhorse to the bench and the workpiece to the sawhorse. These are also perfect for raising the workpiece to cut with a circular saw or jigsaw. And they’re great during assembly and glueup. (A coat of wax keeps the glue from sticking to them.) I made a few different lengths to have on hand for any project.
