Are you tired of constantly having to bend over to check the height of a bit or blade with a metal rule, or having to squint to “eyeball” a measurement? Well just grab a scrap of plywood, and you can turn a standard 6" metal rule into the precision, easy-to-read set-up gauge.
A magnet in the body of the gauge holds the ruler in place. A hairline indicator line can display the measurement on the ruler or you could just cut the height of the gauge to match the length of the ruler. So you can set ruler to the desired dimension when read from the top (inset photo). Then you can adjust the fence or the router bit until it makes contact with the end of the ruler.
