Handy Band Saw Sled

By: Erich Lage
Here's a simple jig that let's you add your band saw to the project production work-flow.

When I get rolling on a project, my goal is to use each tool in the shop as efficiently as possible. My table saw will be set up for certain procedures, both the routers have bits tuned to a task at hand, and the drill press will have marching orders, too. I decided to enlist my band saw into the project production line. One good way to do this is to make a sturdy crosscut sled, similar to the one that you might use on a table saw. W230 006a01 It’s nothing more than a plywood base with a hardwood fence. With this sled and a sharp blade, I can quickly crosscut smaller project parts and pieces without having to change the setup on my table saw. W230 006a01 d01 As the detail above shows, the hardwood runner is slightly longer than the base. Making the runner longer adds stability when using the sled.
