This Craftsman-style Clock is an eye-catching project all on its own, but adding a something like a deorative tile can really make it a focal point on your mantel.
Making a small project offers a good break from typical woodworking because they only require a small investment in materials — often from your scrap bin. And in a short time, you have a great-looking keepsake. However, they aren't short on woodworking challenges. In fact, a mantel clock invites close inspection. So it pays to focus on the details, and this Craftsman-style clock has plenty of details. Corner posts give it a solid stance. And a few bevels and curves keep it from looking too blocky.
The one change I decided to make was to replace the Motawi tile that was originally specified with my own homemade inlay tile. I got the idea from a small box project (seen the photo below) that we made for the magazine years back.
I took my time to cut out the thin copper and fit it into a matching, routed pocket. I think this project mash-up turned out great and really makes this project pop!
