A Second Life For a Grill Cart is Worth the Effort.

07 11 01 A Hidden Gem. 07 11 02 Give an old, rusty grill new life as a cart for your wood shop.

If you’re throwing out an old grill, or (in my case) if you found one on the curb, then you may have found your next shop cart. A grill ended up being a great base for a shop cart. You’ve got a ready-built frame with a set of casters already mounted. I made mine into a sharpening station, but you can get creative: a planer cart, a benchtop tool stand, or a moving miter saw station are just a few ideas. 07 11 05 Making the Cart. To start, I pulled off all the pieces aside from the frame and casters, then cleaned the grill up. 07 07 01 A pair of holes serving as handles make this shop cart easy to wheel around. I used long panhead sheet metal screws to attach 3⁄4 plywood for the worksurfaces, which also added some rigidity to the old frame. The grill I converted had a pop-up shelf that, with a little more plywood, became an extra worksurface. 07 11 10 The original utensil hooks are a great place to hang tools and safety equipment.
